The Women + Men

Since its inception in 2015, Dance To Be Free has certified over 600 women and 50 men in 21 prisons in 12 states!

 
 

Chelsey, a prisoner at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women teaches her original choreography to “My Power,” by Beyonce and shares why she chose this song. She will be released in the summer of 2024 and we are so excited to stay connected with her in the free world!

Demetrius, a former prisoner at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women, teaches her original choreography.

Sarah, a prisoner at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women, leads the class for “Elastic Heart,” by Sia.

Ruby, a former prisoner at Nebraska Correctional Center for Women, co-teaches “One Day,” by Matisyahu with Demetrius, a former prisoner.

While the inmates at the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Corrections are physically incarcerated, the freedom that comes through dance helps them open up, enjoy themselves, and regain self-confidence.
