Hello Dancers!

Last week D2BF visited La Vista, the only other woman’s correctional facility in Colorado. We were shown the premises and met with the Captain of programming as well as the Lieutenant of recreation. They were kind, welcoming and happy to have us teach our first live class on November 22nd!

La Vista

D2BF is also setting up a teacher training program in Denver and now, Pueblo.  Our goal is to reach as many prisons as we are able through our D2BF package.

The sequence will be as follows:

  • D2BF reaches out to the Wardens and Captains of appropriate women’s correctional facilities.
  • We ship five DVDS for the staff to approve.
  • If we are invited – we set up a meeting to schedule a live class.
  • After being approved by the staff, D2BF schedules a five week D2BF teacher training program.

During the five, teacher training sessions, we will teach them how to hold space, lead, inspire and connect with their students. Lucy will be handing over ALL of  her material so they will have plenty of songs to choose from and the ability to create their own choreography.

We have requested that we work with about five women at a time whose sentences vary from being released in the next year or so to life sentences. This will allow a newly released inmate to leave prison with a tangible skill to bring to her community; it will also give the inmates who are serving life sentences, a chance to hold classes in prison.
